D2 steel is an air-hardening, high-carbon and high-chromium tool steel. It has high wear and abrasion-resistant properties. It is heat treatable and offers hardness in the range 55-62 HRC and is machinable in the annealed condition. D2 steel shows little distortion on correct hardening. D2 steel is an air-hardened tool steel that is considered semi-stainless because of its high chromium content. It’s easy to work on the same and looks nice, but because it’s air-hardened steel nobody can’t differentially temper the blade-like other high Carbon Steels as it is hard to sharpen.
